Let’s Make A Change: Clean Up At Pinecrest/Dumaurier
COMMUNITY CLEAN UP PART 2!
Today we chose Dumaurier community as the location for our clean up.
We were able to fill 6 garbage bags in 2 hours... I would like to say that it made an impact.. but the reality is we need a lot more help. There was still a considerable amount of trash left, if more time, and more hands, we would be able to make this a green community.
We also need to create some kind of system that holds the local businesses accountable for their waste. We found that the majority of the garbage was all next to the Giant Tiger.
Located behind the Giant Tiger at 2865 Dumaurier Ave, Ottawa, ON K2B 7W3 .
Plastic wrap was found covering the ground, fence and completely covering this tree.
This community is filled with beautiful people, one woman even stopped to speak with us. Mentioning that she’s also been actively trying to clean up her street.
“The trash just keeps building up, don’t even bother to clean by the stores, it should be their responsibility to do that” She said to us.
We agreed, however we still wanted to do what we could in the time we were there.
It took me less than a minute to pick up these straws outside of a parking lot .
All in all, the day was a success. Thank you everyone for the support and words of encouragement! We are currently planning our next community clean up. If anyone has any suggestions on where we could clean next, or wants to come, please let us know.

What is Cleaning the Capital?
The GLAD Cleaning the Capital campaign is a citywide cleanup that occurs in the spring and fall of every year. Residents come together as a community and combine efforts to make our city clean and green.
This Year Soungui Fitness and I hosted our first Community Clean up with the help of this campaign.
In just two hours, we each collected a trash bag filled with garbage. Plastic wrappers, food containers and plastic straws were the most common things that we found while cleaning.
It felt great to be able to clean up an area right around the corner from us.
This school yard / park / stream looked like a much ore suitable space for children to play in afterwards.
2019 marks the 26th year of the GLAD Cleaning the Capital campaign! The annual cleanup campaign first began in 1994 as a springtime cleanup. In 2006, due to the spring campaign's overwhelming success an annual fall cleanup was added. Since 1994, more than one million volunteers have participated in more than 20,000 cleanup projects throughout the city. As a result, an estimated 1,000,000 kilograms of waste has been removed from our public spaces.
It felt wonderful to be able to make this positive impact on our community, and in turn be apart of an even greater impact.
Thank you for everyone who came out to Cleaning the Capital. Soungui and I are very excited to continue arranging these community clean ups. We will be hosting a clean up every two weeks within the Ottawa / Kemptville / Gatineau areas. If you are interested in joining, please send us a quick message. If you would like to suggest a next location for one of our clean ups, please do, we are currently looking for new locations that may need extra love and attention from us.
